My First Time Playing Legend of Zelda

When it comes to video games, I am someone who seeks out games with levels and/or dance moves. I’m most familiar with simulation or exercise games, but I’m also into trying new things. I recently started playing around with a Nintendo Switch since the Wii was getting repetitive. Now don’t get me wrong, I like the Wii, but the Switch is a lot more versatile. I like the fact that you can play it as a handheld or against the TV. Of course, with any gaming system, you need an actual game to play. I knew I wanted an exercise game, and I knew I wanted Super Mario Kart, but what I didn’t know was that I also wanted The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I normally don’t play many action-adventure games, but I wanted to play something with an actual storyline to follow.

The Quest Begins

I didn’t know what to expect when I first turned the game on. The Legend of Zelda was a franchise that I’ve heard of, but it wasn’t one that I was familiar with. Upon the opening sequence, I noticed just how amazing the graphics were. Everything was very crisp and detailed. I especially liked the contrast of the bright lights whenever you used the Sheikah Slate.

It took me a cool minute to get used to the game and how to maneuver Link around. When I wanted him to jump, he’d climb and when I wanted him to run, he’d crawl. I don’t know why crawling was the one move that was so hard to figure out. He also doesn’t really jump that far or that high which I personally don’t like. Video games require a bit of trial and error especially when things are unfamiliar. Trial and error is the best way I could describe my first battle with those interesting-looking monsters.

Playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has taught me that I do like playing action-adventure video games, but I’m not super good at them. I think it’s because I don’t like to battle. Running into those monsters causes me to panic a little. Sometimes I even have to put the game down to gather my nerves because if I don’t help Link, who would? I also learned that it is very easy to get wrapped up in the game.

It’s very exciting when you do eventually get the hang of things and win a battle or even cook up something that’s worth eating. One funny thing that I didn’t figure out until I was pretty deep in was the use of arrows. I thought the bows came with arrows, so when I would use that function on a foe, I was always surprised that it didn’t do much damage. That lesson was pretty much overruled when I did in fact find the arrows. It’s actually a very helpful tool. Moments when I didn’t know what to do caused a quick trip to an online guide for assistance.

There’s A Quest For Everyone

One thing that I love about this game is that there are so many quests for Link to go on. There are the main adventure quests and then there are the side quests. The adventure quests pretty much move the storyline along while the side quests seem to give Link more opportunities to make connections and gather resources. In all honesty, I don’t do every single side quest I come across. I know that the quests are helpful, but I get eager to move the story along and a bit impatient when it comes to figuring out how to solve the said quest. Having more patience would probably help me more in the game, so I should work on that.
